At any rate, I ended up starting off with a kit from X-10. It's not my ideal
system, but the price/performance is hard to beat (in the US... I understand
the modules are a bit more pricey for 240VAC versions...)
It comes down to my needing a system which is independant of the media. I, too,
would like to have panels in each room. Preferably backlit LCD, with buttons on
the side (like an ATM). I would use rs-485 for the communications with each of
these modules, as I wish to be able to send other data (sound, etc) to/from
these modules as well, and don't see power line modems as a reliable media.
Fortunately my wife and I just moved into a condo from an apartment, so I have
significantly more freedom than I had before.
